Surge of popularity for ETFs in the past few years

Active ETFs (Exchange-traded funds) do not try to mimic the performance of an index. Instead, they are actively managed and optimized to try and beat the benchmark. The very first active ETF was introduced in 2008. Back in 2010, less than $25 billion were invested in active. Today, we're well above the $150 billion mark and getting closer to $200 billion.
