The average age of a successful start-up founder is 45

According to a Harvard Business Review study, you have more chances of succeeding with your startup when you are around 45. While we constantly see young founders in the media, this idea is not exactly correct. The most successful age also depends on the industry, with an average of 40 for software companies, but 47 in biotech. When looking at specifically successful companies (growth, funding, patent, IPO), they found that 45 was the average age of top 0.1% startups. Amongst many factors which could explain the success, industry experience remains one of the strongest. Indeed, those with at least 3 years of prior experience in their field were 85% more likely to found a successful venture. It seems that contrary to popular beliefs, youth is not the only elixir of successful entrepreneurship
