The week ahead: Final approval on US Stimulus expected. Watch CPI numbers and bond yields

Read the key events to monitor for the week which starts on March 8, 2021.

Markets had a volatile day Friday after February’s strong employment report. Investors bought the dip and triggered a spectacular turnaround in the Nasdaq. This could be seen as a positive since it occurred while yields were rising.

Stocks could also get a boost from a congressional stimulus vote in the week ahead. Senate Democrats passed their $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package on Saturday, sending it back to the House for expected final approval on Tuesday. But the vote could be a seen as a negative if it sends interest rates higher and ignites inflation fears.

On the macro side, there is CPI consumer inflation data Wednesday, ECB decision on Thursday and some relevant macro data in China, Japan and EU. The next couple of inflation reports could create some market volatility as some temporary inflation could appear as today’s data will be compared to the drop-off in prices when the economy was shut down last year.
