An increasing number of merchandise is being sold via streaming apps
Douyin is not only in the ads business, but also in live streaming and e-commerce as well as community and local life circles putting it in a great position to grow into any business channel it so desires. Last year, Alibaba’s Taobao Live generated over 400 billion yuan ($62 billion) of gross merchandise value and Kuaishou Technology’s social platforms hosted 381 billion yuan of transactions, more than double Douyin’s. But Douyin's momentum shows that this could reverse going forward.
