US weekly jobless claims dropped to 293,000

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell to 293K last week, the lowest level since the pandemic hit the US economy in March 2020 and well below market expectations of 319K, amid a rebound in demand for workers and a slowdown in firings, layoffs and separations. Still, there are signs many individuals remain on the sidelines of the labor force due to lingering concerns over the coronavirus.
