YouTube's revenue is almost on par with Netflix's

Advertising accounted for more than 80% of Alphabet's $55.3 billion revenue for the first quarter of 2021, with YouTube being one of the main growth driver.  The YouTube ad revenue grew 49% year over year, up to $6 billion for the first quarter of 2021, setting on the path to reach $20 billion this year. With Netflix's revenue sitting at $7.1 billion for the same period, it makes YouTube's performance even more incredible, as the video-streaming service did not even include its subscriptions fees. We must also mention that YouTube does not have to pay for novel content, which is all user-generated. On the other hand, it is a heavy cost for Netflix. Different business models, different profit abilities.
